Who this is for

  • People who missed one tax year, or several
  • Self-employed people and contractors who fell behind on reporting business income
  • Families who stopped receiving benefits because a return was not filed
  • People who have received a letter from the CRA about a missing return
  • Newcomers and people back from abroad who are unsure which years they need to file

What to bring

  • A list of the years you think you have not filed, if you know
  • Any slips you have for those years: T4, T4A, T5 and others
  • Any letters or notices from the CRA
  • If you worked for yourself: bank statements, invoices and receipts for each year
  • Your last Notice of Assessment, if you have one
  • Photo ID and your Social Insurance Number

What is included

We work out which years need filing and what records exist for each. We prepare each missing return from your slips, the CRA’s records and your own records. We go through every return with you, then file them with the CRA. You get a copy of each.

If your business records are also behind, our catch-up bookkeeping puts them in order first.

How it works

  1. Call or request a callback. Tell us roughly how many years and what kind of income.
  2. First appointment. We list the missing years and the missing records. With your authorization, we check what the CRA already has.
  3. We prepare and file. Each year is prepared and reviewed with you, then filed.
  4. After filing. The CRA sends a Notice of Assessment for each year. We explain them and what, if anything, is owed.

When a separate question comes up

If the CRA has already contacted you, or tax was owed and never reported, there may be a question about the Voluntary Disclosures Program. That is assessed separately, before anything is sent. We never promise that penalties or interest will be cancelled.

Fees

Each year is a separate return, so the fee depends on how many years are missing and how complete the records are. We confirm the fee before we begin. See how our fees work.

Common questions

I do not have all my slips. Can we still start?

Yes. With your authorization, we can see the slips the CRA has on file for each year. For income without a slip, such as self-employment, we rebuild the figures from your bank records and receipts.

What if I owe money I cannot pay right away?

File anyway. The CRA treats not filing more seriously than owing. Once the returns are in, the CRA can discuss a payment arrangement with you.

What if I am owed a refund or benefits?

Filing is how you get them. The CRA uses your return to calculate benefits such as the Canada child benefit, so missing years can mean missed payments.

Can you get my penalties cancelled?

We cannot promise that. Some people qualify for the Voluntary Disclosures Program or for relief on request. Whether that applies is a separate question, and we will tell you if it is worth looking at.

Can I speak to someone in Punjabi or Hindi?

Yes. Our team speaks English, Punjabi and Hindi. Tell us your preferred language when you call or request a callback.
