This page explains how the guides on this website are prepared and what has been checked. It also says how to tell us about a mistake.

Who publishes the guides

The guides are published by Rex Tax Inc., a tax and bookkeeping practice in Surrey, BC. Parminder Singh Oberoi (P.S.) is the director. You can read about him on the About page.

How a guide is written

Guides are drafted with the help of AI writing tools and edited for plain language. The tools are used to draft and organise text. They are not used as a source of facts.

Every rule, amount, threshold and date in a guide is checked against an official primary source before publication. That means the Canada Revenue Agency, the Department of Finance, the Income Tax Act and the Province of BC. It also means Elections BC, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada and similar public bodies. The sources used are listed at the end of each guide, with links.

News articles, forums and other websites can tell us which questions people are asking. They are never used as the authority for a tax rule.

What the status line on each guide means

"Information checked against official sources. Last updated (date)." The facts in the guide were checked against the listed sources on that date, and Rex Tax Inc. approved the guide for publication. It does not mean a practitioner has reviewed it.

"Reviewed by (name)." This appears only when a named practitioner has actually read and approved that guide. We never show a reviewer's name on a guide they have not reviewed.

As of today, none of the guides has been reviewed by a practitioner. Review is planned in batches, starting with the guides where a mistake would matter most.

Insurance guides need review by the licensed insurance provider, not a tax practitioner. Until that happens, they say so in the guide.

Proposals, changes and dates

When a measure has been announced but is not yet law, the guide calls it a proposal. When a rule has an effective date, the guide states it. Some guides depend on amounts that change every year, such as benefit thresholds or contribution limits. Those guides are flagged internally for review when new figures are published.

What the guides are not

The guides are general information, not advice about your situation. They do not recommend investments or financial products. Rex Tax Inc. does not provide legal services, including wills, trusts or estate planning, and does not give immigration advice. Where a question belongs with a lawyer, an immigration representative or another professional, the guide says so.

No guide is sponsored, and the guides contain no affiliate links.
