Do I need to register for GST?

Enter your taxable sales for the last four calendar quarters. The checker applies both $30,000 tests and tells you where you stand.

Taxable sales by calendar quarter

Sales before expenses. Include zero-rated sales, such as basic groceries or exports. Leave out exempt sales. Calendar quarters run January to March, April to June, July to September, and October to December.

Anything else?

This checker runs on your device and sends nothing. It is general information, not advice about your situation.

How the two tests work

One quarter. If your taxable sales pass $30,000 in a single calendar quarter, you stop being a small supplier on the sale that took you over. GST applies to that sale.

Four quarters together. Sometimes the last four calendar quarters add up to more than $30,000. Then you stop being a small supplier at the end of the month after that quarter.

Either way, you have 29 days to register, and GST is owed from the effective date. Taxi and rideshare drivers must register from their first fare. If you own other businesses, their sales may count toward your total; ask us.
